Our Story

The Roots

DP Moving & Storage was founded by Nicholas Blake, a lifelong logistics professional who built the company’s systems, operations, and processes from the ground up — not in a boardroom, but out of necessity.

Nicholas was raised in a hardworking, blue-collar family in Connecticut. His parents, Eddie & Deanna Blake, owned and operated a small, owner-run building business that supported the family for years. When the housing market collapsed in 2008, that business disappeared almost overnight. What followed was not a slowdown — it was total loss. Income, stability, and security were gone.

By 2009, the family was starting over from nothing. Nicholas, his triplet siblings, and his parents found themselves on food stamps, facing a reality they had never imagined. Survival depended on work — any work — and on the willingness to do whatever it took.

That work came through logistics.

The Work

Eddie secured delivery contracts with IKEA and the New Haven Register — back when newspapers still landed on doorsteps each morning, and the kind of person willing to wake up early, work late, and grind quietly had a real place in society. It was unglamorous, demanding, and relentless — and it mattered.

At just 12 years old, Nicholas was right there beside his father, learning the rhythm of routes, the pressure of deadlines, and the responsibility that comes when people are counting on you. Those delivery routes weren’t just jobs — they were the lifeline that kept the family afloat through some of the hardest years of their lives.

The Legacy

Logistics didn’t just pay the bills. It created structure. It demanded discipline. It taught accountability. And it proved, day after day, that showing up prepared and doing the work — even when no one is watching — changes outcomes.

Those years shaped Nicholas permanently.

Logistics became more than a career path; it became a belief system. One built on ownership, control, and the understanding that when systems fail, real families feel it. That belief is why we operate with no third-party crews or brokers — ever. Every process is internal. Every outcome is owned.

What began as survival became a lifelong commitment to building logistics systems that work — because they have to.

That legacy lives on in every truck, every crew, and every move.
